The Story

An elaborate Indian wedding necklace, Kalyani is handcrafted in gold and dressed in polki/uncut diamonds and tourmalines.

The necklace features three lines of circular units dressed in diamonds using the traditional jadai technique. The tourmaline units in the middle line are painstakingly selected to maintain the uniformity of size and then cut, all of which takes about 25–30 man-hours. From the third line are suspended Jav (seed) shaped units, again dressed in diamonds using the traditional jadai technique. Fringes of seed pearls, green enameled beads, and the unique Nishapuri feroza (turquoise) beads, known as laria in jewelry-making parlance, add the finishing touch. This Indian wedding necklace features 15–25 man-hours of skillful chakkar pirai.

The Jav form symbolizes luck, happiness, fertility, and abundance.
